Our Nike Women Half Marathon Experience

On October 18th we join 25,000 other runners to participate in the Nike Women San Francisco half marathon. We began our training in the summer starting with a 3 mile run and gradually increase the mileage each week. We also incorporated weight training and high intensity uphill runs. Our training helped us crossed the finish line in around 2 hours and 19 minutes. For us, it was really a great experience. Not only was it amazing to run for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, but also to be surrounded by thousands of women, and some men, who were equally determine to finish the goal set ahead.

However the biggest challenge for us is not just being physically prepared, but mentally be ready too. So many times during the race, our bodies start to ache or the fatigue sets in and being able to push past it, is what got us past the finish line.

It was a wonderful running thru one of our favorite city. The course took us thru the colorful neighborhoods of San Francisco, into the Golden Gate park, along trails with view of Golden Gate Bridge and finished at Marina Park.

Around the 10 mile mark, we faced the longest and most painful uphill during the course. Although we did expect to run uphills since it was San Francisco, we did not realize how many uphills we would face. But knowing with every uphill there would be downhill, it made it easy to get past them. Kinda of how life is, right?

We made it our goal to try running the whole course non-stop and when we past the finish line we felt a sense of pride for accomplishing the goal. Knowing that if you challenge yourself and not allow obstacles, both mentally and physically, to get it your way anything possible.
